Artist Statement-
My goal is to build my own artistic language of symbols and motifs that represent what is important in my life. In my painting language, I often take inspiration from the people and things that surround me in everyday life.
I use a mix of digital tools and free-hand painting methods to produce my drawings and paintings. I like the idea of being able to reproduce my art on a larger scale, because there is a lot of power in the repetition of a certain image or idea. There is also a certain sense of democracy with multiples, because it is representative that each individual is allowed access to these works, and it isn’t only for an exclusive few. Technology benefits my practice by allowing me to translate my imagery to many different mediums, also letting me access the printmaking processes. I choose to paint largely using stencils, which allows me to easily reproduce my imagery, and compliments the graphic aesthetic I aim to achieve. Aerosol-based paints are my medium of choice because of the massive range in pre-mixed colors as well as overall ease-of-use and convenience. The unique affects that aerosol-based paints offer, such as fluorescent or metallic colors, are also another effective way to update the ancient motifs I draw from by showcasing the unique and versatile qualities of todays mediums.
